Device makers using Nvidia's Tegra 2 chip will, for the most part, initially bring out tablets--not classic clamshell designs--according to Mike Rayfield, general manager of Nvidia's mobile business. "A year ago there was a lot of talk about clamshell devices," Rayfield said, speaking in a teleconference before the Consumer Electronics Show (https://ces.cnet.com/). But that's changed, according to Rayfield, because consumers may mistake a clamshell-design smartbook for a Windows-Intel-based Netbook
Rayfield described the devices as having "screen sizes between 5 and 10 inches, all touch-capable...most of them are very thin, well under an inch," he said, adding that they will have one or two cameras, Wi-Fi, and 3G, among other features.

What makes Tegra 2 impressive though is that it sips just 500mW of power while playing 1080p HD videos. Tegra's excellent power efficiency enables it to play back up to 140 hours of music (that's around 200 CDs) or 16 hours of 1080p HD video on a single charge with a standard battery.
Not only that but, thanks to the Nvidia graphics processor, gaming is also possible. Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said that "gaming on Tegra is exciting" as he showed a real-time demo of Unreal Engine 3.0 running on Tegra 2 with all of the lighting effects enabled. Sweeney said that Tegra 2's graphics chip is as powerful as the current consoles, which is incredible considering the computer on a chip is about the size of my rather average-sized thumbnail.
He said that more than 50 designs are already "in flight" and, given Nvidia's relationship with Apple and the rumours surrounding its plans to get into the tablet PC market
