MSI N480GTX Lightning stayed at 32C on idle and never exceeded 64C under full load.
Speaking of overclocking, using the Afterburner 2.0 utility, we got a stable overclock of 860MHz Core and 2100MHz Memory speeds over factory speeds of 750MHz Core and 2000MHz Memory speeds. Keep in mind that the Core clock was already overclocked from 700MHz to 750MHz by MSI, so this is an effective overclock of 160MHz. Not too shabby.

In our DX11 tests it still has to catch up to the HD 5970, but otherwise the overclocked N480GTX Lightning is the leader of the pack.

Whether this performance increase is worth the estimated $550 that the MSI N480GTX Lightning is going to retail for, you can decide for yourself. Keep in mind that the HD 5970 still retails for around $700 despite an MSRP of $600, even a year after its release. Add to this that it touches at the heels of the HD 5970, the MSI N480GTX Lightning is probably the best single PCB card money can buy right now.
