Direct path to Windows Server "Longhorn"
Windows Server "Longhorn" credentials will be part of the new generation of Microsoft Certifications, with shorter, more specific paths to demonstrate and differentiate both technology and professional skills. The new generation of certifications was designed to allow you to earn a credential on the specific technology or job-role that makes sense for you and to avoid unnecessary testing on technologies or applications that are not relevant to your IT experience or career path.
• Learn about the new generation of Microsoft Certifications
There will be three Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) credentials for Windows Server "Longhorn," each earned with one exam, to demonstrate your configuration skills in specific areas:
• MCTS: Windows Server "Longhorn" Active Directory Configuration
• MCTS: Windows Server "Longhorn" Networking Infrastructure Configuration
• MCTS: Windows Server "Longhorn" Application Platform Configuration
There will be two Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) credentials, which will require two or three MCTS pre-requisites:
• MCITP: Server Administrator (three or four exams total)
• MCITP: Enterprise Administrator (five exams total)
Note More information on the new structure of certification was provided in a March Live Meeting on Windows Server certifications.

Upgrading credentials
There will be an upgrade path for customers who hold an MCSA or MCSE in Windows Server 2003. There will not be a separate upgrade path for customers who hold a Messaging or Security specialization in Windows Server 2003.
• MCSA on Windows Server 2003 can upgrade to two MCTS certifications (Active Directory and Networking) with one exam.
• MCSE on Windows Server 2003 can upgrade to all three MCTS certifications with one exam.
Note There will not be an upgrade path from Windows Server 2000 certifications.
Note The upgrade exams will be introduced (for a beta period) at Tech·Ed 2007 in the first week of June 2007; the live exams will be available approximately two months after the beta period finishes.
• Learn about Tech·Ed 2007
Note All customers who have a Windows Server 2003 credential (or who complete one by June 30, 2007) may request a 40 percent discount upgrade voucher to use on your Windows Server "Longhorn" exam.

Questions about virtualization, messaging, and security
• Messaging. For customers with messaging specializations, there are now Exchange 2007 certifications (between one and three exams to get certified) that offer very specific messaging-focused certifications. There is no separate upgrade path from messaging specializations to the Windows Server "Longhorn" certifications.
• Get more information in an MSDN blog.
• Security. At this time, there is no new security specialization certification for Windows Server "Longhorn" to replace the current security specialization track that compliments MCSA and MCSE. Security-related content will be covered within the Windows Server "Longhorn" certification tracks. Look for more information soon.
• Virtualization. Virtualization will not, in the near term, be broken out as a separate track for Windows Server "Longhorn"; it is covered within the MCTS-series exams.
